EKITI State government workers on Thursday appealed to Governor Ayodele Fayose to expedite action on the payment of their outstanding salaries.
The workers whose representatives cut across the Ekiti state University,Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), the Ekiti state University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), College of Education,Ikere-Ekiti,College of Health Sciences, Ijero-Ekiti,State Public Service, Secondary and Primary School Teachers and Local governments pleaded with Governor Fayose to save them from financial crisiis confronting them.
Speaking on the workers behalf,the Vice Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC),Ekiti state Chapter,Comrade Gbenga Adeniyi requested three priorities to be addressed by the Governor,lamenting that his members have not been enjoying good living while their morale and expectations seemed to have dashed.
The Workers’ request as stated by the state NLC Vice Chairman include pension, gratuities and leave bonuses of 2014,2015 and 2016 added that they would want the money paid as quick as possible
Governor Fayose who in his response told the workers that the state has pressing issues to address but would want the workers form opinion on the salary payment as state and local governments would get N2.2 billion and N1.8 billion respectively.
He also assured the workers that the salaries would be paid side by side if they were able to get cash backing on the monthly allocation reportedly paid from the Federation Account.
