The arm of the law has caught up with a village head, Rasheed Sholabi, who is the Baale of Oose Agbedu Ajibawo in Owode-Yewa area of Ogun State, as he has been arrested by the police for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of his 15-year-old daughter (name withheld).
Reporters At Large learnt that Sholabi was arrested, following a report by the victim, who walked into Owode Egbado police station and reported that her father had been defiling her since when she was 11 years old.
She said that as a result, she was finding it difficult to control her urinary system.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the victim told the police that she lost her mother when she was barely two years old and that the suspect did not allow her to know any relation of her late mother, leaving her no option than to continue staying with the father.
“Unfortunately, the father used that opportunity to sexually abuse her from time to time,” the PPRO said.
He added that when the Divisional Police Officer Owode-Egbado was informed, she led her men to the place where the village head was promptly arrested.
Reporters At Large gathered that when he was first interrogated, the village head initially denied the allegation, but when he was confronted by the victim and one of his ex-wives who corroborated the victim’s statement, the suspect fainted and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation.
His ex-wife was said to have informed the police that she caught him red-handed while sleeping with his daughter, which was her reason for leaving him. DSP Oyeyemi disclosed that the victim had been taken to Stella Obasanjo Motherless Babies’ Home for safety, while the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspect to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for an in-depth investigation and diligent prosecution.
