Shaka Hislop, a former Premier League custodian, is dubious about Chelsea’s suitability for Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli.
Although Victor Osimhen has been strongly linked to a move to Chelsea, Hislop expressed his reservations on ESPN FC about the Nigerian joining Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
Osimhen has been added by Chelsea to their list of potential targets for the January transfer window, as reported by ESPN. Although they acquired Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal in the summer, the Blues are still looking for a centre forward.
Hislop suggests that Osimhen might not be suited for Stamford Bridge.
The ESPN pundit said: “While Chelsea may have the money, while Chelsea may be willing to pay him more than most, I’m not sure that’s a good fit right now for Victor Osimhen.”
According to a recent 90-minute report, Osimhen may have a release clause in his contract worth up to £130 million if he inks a new deal with Napoli.
Admittedly, the transfer fee is high, but with Osimhen, you can access one of the world’s top centre-forwards.
During the 2022–2023 Serie A season, the 24-year-old netted 26 goals in 32 games as Napoli went on to win the Italian league championship.
It is easy to understand why Don Hutchison, a former Liverpool player, called him “world-class.”
Osimhen may have some reservations about joining Chelsea considering their current situation. However, the Blues ought to seize the chance to sign him if it presents itself.
