Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso-elect.
The declaration was made after the drawn-out procedures outlined by law, according to a statement made on Saturday by the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola.
In the announcement, it was stated that “His Excellency congratulates the new Soun Ogbomoso-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.”
According to the Commissioner, the monarch-elect is in a position to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding among his people because of his lofty position.
All Ogbomoso descendants were asked by the Commissioner to cooperate with the king in order to build on the accomplishments of his forebears.
Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagbungbade III (son of Ajagungbade II, grandson of Ajagungbade I, great-grandson of Oluwusi) reigned between October 24, 1973 and December 12, 2021. He was the longest reigning Soun in modern history. He died on December 12, 2021, at the age of 95.
Ogbomosho (also Ogbomoso) is a city in Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria. It was founded in the mid-17th century. The population was approximately 454,690 in the 2006 census. It is the second largest city in Oyo State and also among the most populated in Nigeria. Although the principal inhabitants of the city are the Yoruba people, there are people from other parts of Nigeria and other West African countries who are residents of the city.
