The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, has warned illegal cult groups in Ogun State that the the police command would deal decisively with anyone with an attempt to breach the relative peace being enjoyed by good residents of the state.
Speaking through a statement issued and signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Friday, August 7,2020, CP Ajogun said that the warning became imperative, going by the intelligence report at the
Command’s disposal “that members of various unlawful cult groups are planning to mark what they call ‘8/8’, which is on Saturday, August 8, 2020.”
The Commissioner of Police, who stated that the event might result in blood-letting and destruction of property, warned that “those having such a devilish plan should have a rethink and retrace their steps, as such move will be met with strong resistance from security agencies.”
Ajogun disclosed that all the command’s tactical squads such as Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Cultism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, as well as all the Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders had been put on red alert to nip in the bud any act capable of undermining the security of the state.
He said: “The full weight of the law will descend on any member of any unlawful society who intends to use public places to perpetrate evil, as the Command will not fold its hands while some misguided and unscrupulous elements attempt to make life difficult for law-abiding citizens of the state.
“The command is therefore using this medium to appeal to parents and guardians to steer clear of any unlawful gathering or society on before and after the said date.”
This, he added, was to prevent ‘had-I-known’ situation.
Continuing, Ajogun said that hoteliers had been warned not to allow their facilities to be used for any cult-related gathering, as owners of such facilities would be liable for prosecution.
The police commissioner assured members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment, intimidation and molestation.
