Armed thugs at the wee hours of Sunday morning invaded Mokola police station with the aim to razing the station.
According to an eye witness account who led other youths to resist the hoodlums said one female police Inspector was hacked while the youths mobilised to in their hundreds to repel the hoodlums from setting the station ablaze.
Speaking further, the witness confirmed the death of an innocent boy who was hit by stray bullet why the crisis was ongoing.
The witness however couldn’t establish who fired the gunshot that killed the boy. He noted that the corpse was brought to Police Station at Mokola thinking he was shot by the police.
The eyewitness who gave his name as Musa said the youths led by him were able to secure the uniforms of the police officers who fled the the station for their safety.
In addition, operatives of operation burst arrived the venue and the situation is under control.
While speaking with Mayor Isaac Brown on Fresh FM this Sunday morning, the leader of the Operation Burst, Captain Isolo said no one was killed as the security operative doesn’t fire shot but to arrest hoodlums. He however confirmed that seven of the hoodlums have been apprehended.
He stressed that normalcy has been restored to Mokola and it environs. When quizzed further by Isaac Brown on measures put in place to forestall attacks on health institutions, Captain Isolo said security has been reinforced at UCH and other health institutions.
However, Reporters At Large had reported that at least, 25 inmates out of the 1,900 that escaped from Oko and Sapele Road Correctional Centres in Benin City, Edo State last Monday have voluntarily surrendered themselves to the authorities.
An official of the Sapele Road Correctional Centre gave the figure yesterday, disclosing that one of the escapees had been recaptured after he was shot in the leg last Wednesday.
The official, also, disclosed that two out of the 25 inmates, who returned were inmates at the Oko Medium Correctional Centre along Airport Road, Benin.
