Three people were allegedly shot when a team of personnel from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) visited the Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan, to make an arrest.
A staff member of the school who pleaded anonymity said that when the EFCC personnel entered the school premises, they had a meeting with the management of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, under which the school operates. She added that commotion ensued when the team proceeded to the school to make an arrest.
“The team approached the management of FRIN before going to the school, which is located within the FRIN premises. The problem started when the EFCC officers proceeded to the school to make an arrest.
“The students came out in solidarity with their colleagues. While the issue was being sorted out by the FRIN management, a backup team came and began shooting sporadically. I understand that three students sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the hospital,” said the staff.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of EFCC, Dele Oyewale, said he was gathering information on what happened and would make an official statement as soon as he was through with it.
“I am on top of it. I will send a statement to you as soon as I am through with gathering information on the issue,” he told our correspondent.
